TR6 TR6 Header Rail Question

I've got the TR pretty much finished and pulled out the top frame to start cleaning it. Problem is, the header rail is loose and bent up where it is riveted to the side frames. I should be able to fix it but I am not sure how it is supposed fit.
Do they normally have some play or should they be solid to the rivets? Do they lay straight with the frames or at an angle?
Any info and or pics would be helpful.

I had the same problem with mine on the drivers side, I straightend mine out and welded it. Not sure its thats correct but thats what I did

Hi Larry,

I'm pretty close to you, down here Elk Grove. I re-did the whole top frame and installed a sunfest canvass top. Mine was loose also. So straighted mine but it will have a little angle to it. look at your windshield top cap and you will see the angle you will need. I took a hammer and peaned the rivit on a flat vise to tighten them up.

I also have a 74 1/2 TR6 but somewhat modified with an Ls1 V8

Here is a website I used for information to rebuild your top frame with good information.

Mounted the frame and lined everything up to get a good secure fit. Had to straighten a couple of bends then peaned the rivets as Calvin suggested. Sits good and tight. Now to get the thing sanded down for paint.

The website Calvin Rx is great.

When I put a top on mine I found the header was super floppy. I had an old VW input shaft laying around that had a convex end on it. I used that to peen the rivets and it worked perfectly.
