TR6 TR6 header gasket ??

Now knowing that I have and early head (narrow port spacing) my Pacesetter header gasket will not fit. Pacesetter use to make a gasket for both early and late head but now only the late model gasket is available. Is there another supplier that has header gaskets? who out there has run a stock gasket with a header successfully? what are the latest thoughts on sealer type? I know some have used double gaskets, but I cant see where that would help.
 
I used a stock gasket, no sealer, tightened the bolts/nuts sequentially, keep going back as the torque does drop off as the gasket compresses. Run for a while and retorque again.
Got a full season on it with no leaks.
 
Allan- Have those headers planned at the gasket surface. save you a load of head aches later.
 
My Pacesetter installation used stock gasket, albeit the later model because I have a 74. Torqued and retorqued as suggested above and no problems after a season of running about 2,000 miles.
 
I used the TRF stock metallic gasket. Be a good idea to have your mating surface machined. Some good muffler shops have this capability. I spray a light coat of copper sealant on both surfaces. Beware of the off-white colored paper-looking "header gasket". Yes, they seem to seal well but will burn out in about a year.
 
My nice looking soft paper white gasket that came with the headers is sitting in my little workshop in a box. Some day it will make the club flea market.

Good old Permatex Copper Sealer. That stuff works really well.

I also installed all new studs, nuts, retainers and lock washers. When the headers come off and the gasket gets replaced when I do the new intake, I'll be replacing the lock washers again at that time. Cheap insurance against leaks and loose nuts.

Although there appears to be more than a few loose nuts running around ebay at times.

Did you wrap or ceramic coat your header? Wonder about the issue of under bonnet heat. Prob need at least a carb head shield I'm guessing.

I have a chrome one I am thinking about installing when I put in my ANSA.
 
I bought my Pacesetter from Jet-Hot Coating down south. They provided the header coated on both the inside and outside with their special protection. It looks super and works very well.

I've had my car running in a club road tour event, along with several other similar TR-6's that have cast manifolds and then used a digital pyrometer to measure temps on both cars. I have found that mine is 5-10 degrees cooler than theirs and I never have a fuel problem, not even on the hottest summer days.

I got a good deal because I paid for a complete job and only was $10 higher than the painted header at the time.
