TR6 TR6 Hardtop question

I'm interested in getting a hardtop for my 71, especially since there is nothing but a softtop frame on it now and it's getting kinda cold, but I have no idea how it attaches to the body. Do I need to have any specific parts to hook it up? And will a factory hardtop fit any year TR6? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Thanks to everyone for all of the useful info I've picked up here.

Any TR6 Hardtop will fit any year TR6. Changes made through production will not affect this area. There are some specialized fastners at the B-pillar area. TRF used to sell them as well as a Hardtop fittment guide. That would be a good place to start.

When I had a '71 I had a TR4 "Surrey" top. I don't recall any problem with the installation. Parrish Plastics (now called Slimline I believe) made a top that has the general shape of the TR4 top. It shoild fit the TR6. There was one posted for sale recently.

Unless you need original, the Slimline top looks great it has that smooth rounded top that gives the tr6 a more modern look. They are light and easy to install with two turnbuckles in the rear and two bolts in the front. I have seen three on ebay in the last two months. My top came with hardware and no modifications were needed.

[/ QUOTE ] Funny - I was wondering whether the Surrey top would fit on the TR6, as I was perusing the Bill Piggott Original Triumph TR4-6 book the other day. Now I've got my answer...! I had a notion to try to do a photoshop 'transplant' to see how it would look but haven't got to that yet. Pete

A few people have successfully fitted a surrey top to TR6's. Supposedly there is a slight sealing problem on the rear deck because they are not quite identical from the TR4-250 to the TR6. With the TR6 deck being a little flatter. Lee Jansen has a write up on how he fit a Surrey top to his TR6. You can find it on his website by scrolling down his contents page.

Looking out at all of the rain coming down from my office window, I was looking for information on where I could get a decent hardtop for my 1971 TR6, and, if it would be easy to install.

Saw some listings on Ebay. Any advice, suggestions, appreciated.

Thanks as always.

John

A Surrey top on a TR6?! Sacrilege!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif Just kidding, but IMHO, the factory TR6 hardtop is beautiful! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Here's another page featuring a TR6 with a Surrey installed:

I am not sure if Todd Bermudez is on the forum, but I know that he is very active on other lists and with 6-Pack.

FYI - My white fiberglass hardtop is on ebay right now.
Someone has the black version of mine on ebay right now - asking $750. (yikes!!). Mine is priced for a fraction of that.
Biggest issue is being able to ship the darn thing. Not heavy - just extremely bulky.

good luck,

When I bought my TR6 Hardtop, I got a really good deal, I paid $300 for a factory steel hardtop from a guy in Detroit. Perfect pain, headliner and seals. Then it cost me $300 to have it shipped, the box wah huge! All in all, I still got a really good deal, even if it was ten years ago.

Does anyone use a Parrish Plastics top? They were bought out by Smoothline several years ago. You'll see Smoothline in the Moss catalog. Just wondering how well they fit and seal.
Thanks, BOBH

I've seen the Parrish tops fit pretty well. My factory hardtop fit is better than my softtop fit. Really turn the car into a GT.
