TR6 TR6 Hardtop in Boston

Well, Bill, right now it's "along" side the water hose cart in the garage for the winter. There is a home project that involves carpentry and appliances that is getting all of my attention and resources for the next few months.

In other words, TR6 projects are over for a while. The very liberal CFO has finally spoken, so I'm laying low for a bit.

Just an update on mine, I took it too the paint shop last Thursday to be media blasted and painted. When it comes time, I'm taking my deck lid to them match the paint up.

I spoke to him about the black trim around the rear window. My paint guy suggested to use the same flat black that is used on the rear of the car to tie it in.. but he thought it would look great.

So the next pics I post will be of the primered top when I take the deck lid down to get matched. I'm really looking forward to getting the top back and resting on the car for the winter.

I really enjoy driving the car in the cold weather with the top on.

feels like a different car with it on.

Bill- every time there is a photo of your car it's on the side of the road. It must break down a lot! :laugh:
 
It went for $1,125. My $700 investment isn't looking so bad now.

I snuck over to the body shop on the way home tonight. He's going to paint it the week between Christmas and New Years. That will give me time for Shannon's pics of the black to show up.
 
FYI there is another hard top for sale in the Boston area on Craig's list. He wants 1000 for it. It does not have a headliner and is missing the rubber seals.
At first I thought it was the green one on Ebay so I sent him the link in hopes of getting the price down but no luck.
Just got a paragraph on how rare they were, blah, blah as if I didn't already know.
 
I'd really to have the plans or dimensions for building that cart.

I'll be happy to measure everything up for you, I just sort of built it one day with stuff I had laying around. Only thing I went out and bought were the casters for it. :blush:

Looking at Kodanga's rig reminds me of a bike hoist I got at Lowe's a few years ago. You can mount the lift points any distance apart into secure rafters and a single control line lifts three hooks in unison-even has a brake on the unit though I tie off to a cleat on the wall as well. I use it to hoist a dinghy trailer and I suspect it would handle the top as well. With some practice I imagine you could about install the top w/o much difficulty.Let me know if you want a pic-think the whole shooting match was under 20 bucks.

But.....I would still appreciate Shawn's measurements in the event I decide to store it in the basement.

Actually using two different means to hoist items in my garage. The bike lift is simple,cheap and easy to use for a light item-not sure how much top weighs but probably less than 40-50 lbs I would guess. The lifting sysem for the boat is using a winch to control up and down as boat weighs @150 lbs and I can still manage alone.There is a good marine consignment shop in NK where you can pick up a single speed winch pretty cheap.

I think it took me longer to draw these up than to build it. :wink:

I used foam weatherstripping on the surfaces where the hardtop actually touches. The four corner "posts" don't need to be as tall as they are. I built/used the rack to store more than just the top. For instance, the top cross brace was used to hold fender covers etc... The top doesn't fit on the carrier "like a glove" either. It does fit securely though and makes it easy to move the top around if need be.

I can email better versions if you need them.
