TR6 TR6 grille - rectangular tabs under the grille finisher?

...close to wrapping up a grille project - will post pics, assuming it works out like I'm envisioning.

In the meantime: there are 3 rectangular tabs under the old disintegrated finisher that will basically come off with a good swipe of a wire brush.

Question being - what good are they and do I need to fabricate new ones? From what I can tell, the finisher will be held in place when the grill is bolted back on. My sense is that I should get rid of what's left of them, clean up the metal underneath, and just sit the finisher on top, sans rectangular pieces.

Am I missing something?

Those tabs hold the trim piece in place, as the grill is slightly above it. I would find out were the grill placement is, mark with chalk on each side and at least put a couple of round head screws between the chalk marks. Or, glue heck out of it, with trim glue.

Thanks Wayne - found a few posts where some have just left the finisher off altogether....might consider that too (though I already bought it).
