TR6 TR6 goes, dies, goes, dies, Etc

Red silt? Maybe in parts of Montana, otherwise, rust flakes.

On another note, the PRC has anounced they want to be in the global automobile manufacturing business.

I wonder if they will put the same carp (sp) in those cars for export, with the same high failure rate we experience, or if they will come up with a new line for their own use of actually reliable parts?

Nope- no rust-new tank in car, brand new tanks in new gas station.

We get 6 months of very, very fine reddish brown Sahara dust and volcanic ash most anytime that does oxidize and look like rust.

My friend Paul! I have learned a few things. Look for the obvious first. Points, rotor and the spark plug gizzmo said my plugs were firing. Forget ignition.

I would NEVER (now that I ain't so stupid) pull a fuel pump to find out why no gas to to the carbs. Tank-----forward. Yer pump is back in action and working well. Think I'll buy a box of Israeli Fram fuel filter for my TR6.

I'm sure there are opinions on this -- but I do not run a fuel filter on either of my TRs (other than the bronze screen in the pump bowl).

Doesn't seem to be a problem for the SUs and you can't clog what you don't have.
 
Dale, just pull the top cover to make sure there is no junk in the pump that can give a problem later on. One bolt, 30 seconds later you know for sure exactly what you have or don't have.

I ran my 59 that way for basically all it's life.

But on the 56, after about a year, the jet seals started leaking. When I pulled them apart, I found a pile of what appeared to be very fine particles, almost like rubbing compound, in the bottom of each jet, and visible wear on the jets. Presumably the O-rings were worn as well, hence the leak. Come to think of it, since the body shop failed to mask off the gas tank opening, it might well have been rubbing compound.

Anyway, it got me to thinking about what happens to any small particles that make it all the way through the carbs and so I added a small paper element filter just before the front carb. Likely it's not a problem in most of the country, but around here we sometimes get a very fine, abrasive dust in the air, possibly the remains of the sand storms they sometimes have out around Palm Springs.

I ended up doing the same. The paper elements were swelling from water/ethanol and causing grief, and I'm not sure a sintered metal one would get very fine particles anyway.
 
I don't think that I'd run any of my cars without fuel filters but that just me. I've seen too many cars on the 60's and 70's flooding the engine with raw fuel because of junk in the needle and seats and I just can't get that out of my mind.

But that's just me and others may find it works fine. Whatever makes the owner happy....
 
As an aside: water will NOT pass thru a gas filter. MILK will. Still renders the filter useless but if you are looking for a gas leak, water is useless. Milk will flow thru a hole the same as gas. Water doesen't.

Total sucess today. I bought a beautiful TR6 Fram fuel filter that was was made in Israel not China or India. Yisrael- I now have 2 penpals in Israel !

Glad to hear that the problem is solved :yesnod: Did you have to order the filter directly from Israel? They are good filters. The irony of it is that I no longer can find them locally.

Many, if not most, fuel filters were made in Israel. NAPA, Autozone, etc.

Some enterprising Israeli must've started a small factory for good quality fuel filters, cheap, and got contracts all over the world.

OK, shall I hazard a question? Like, how do you know that milk will flow through the filter? :crazyeyes:
