TR6 TR6 Gas Cap Spring Tech Tip

I need to replace the spring/latch assembly of the gas cap after rechroming? Can't remember how it was installed before. Does anyone have a tip or advice to reassemble the gas cap latch?

Ask and yee
shall receive.

The tension spring is loaded onto the
gas cap release lever dowel bar. One half
twist of the spring should do it. The spring
has small stright ends that provide the grip
to the release lever and the cap itself.

You will need 2 hands and an ice pick held
between your teeth to get these 3 pieces into
position.

OR- super glue the release lever and velcro
the cap to the tank opening edges.

Easy solution. I put the spring in place and held it with a small pin (chopped rivet shaft) then put the lever & spring in place.

Sliding the spring pin in place moved the rivet shaft out.
