Search all over creation for 3/8" flat washers that weren't oversized and would bang into my rockers. Went all the way to the city to a specialty shop and bought a dozen (six to use, six to lose) and found when I got home that she sold me 5/16" washers. Made another trip to Lowes and found metric washers that filled the bill. Bought a pack. There were five in the pack. I need six. Gasoline bill so far: $28.
Ticked off, I resorted to my giant bin of odds and ends nuts and bolts and little-sharp-things-that-stick-you-when-you-rummage-through-with-your -fingers. Behold! I found six (count'em, 6) 3/8" small-diameter flat washers in the 1000s of left-over pieces from years gone by. Grade 8, yet.
It's a Feng Shui thing. I can't mix and match parts because my car will know.

I know that it wasn't fun to experience, but at least you made a funny story out of it. I hope that's a sign that you've recovered from the "stint".
