TR6 fan shroud, home made

I was searching the net one day and came across directions on how to make a fiberglass fan shroud and figured it might help in keeping the temperatures down in my TR6 while crusing around town, and while I was off today waiting for the UPS man to show up with my new Boot lid I poped one out

and primed, I hope it fits but I took some good measurements and I will have to take the radiator loose to put it in, and once I get the car painted and back on the road I will know if it helps this summer. got a few imperfections to fill before I paint it flat black

Re: TR6 fan shroud, home made

Hondo, nice job, should work just fine. Made mine to look like the original out of flashing and left it white to reflect heat.

Didn't know you needed a boot led, I had a couple, new is always better though.

Are you ready for the snow. Thank goodness I have some painting at the other house or I would be going nuts.

Keep up the good work.

Hand layup... intrepid nut!!! :jester:

Very nice, BTW. Done my share of frozen snott work, that looks great.

A word in yer ear: keep an eye on motor mounts. If one gets weak or shatters that shroud becomes a jigsaw puzzle.

Re: TR6 fan shroud, home made

Hey Wayne, well my old bonnet had a lot of waves in it and since I had to take it back down to bare metal again, I saw one on ebay and said what the heck, so I got it yesterday, got it primed, only 2 small dings on it.

And DR thanks for the word on the motor mounts maybe I will order a new set and change them out first, but I plan on drilling slots for the mount holes on the shroud, that way I can slide it up and down to adjust for rubbing, the fan is 12 inch dia and the hole is 13 inches, I can enlarge is a little if need be

Re: TR6 fan shroud, home made

I made one from polyisocyanrate foam I purchased at lowes, anything else the resin will melt it. 2 layers of foam 2-13 inch diameter circles on top of that and some bondo to form the transitions. sprayed it with Pam nonstick spray and did the lay up.
