Does anyone know at what year engines will fit in a 69 TR6? Now that I have my car at least running at this point, I want to get a second engine to rebuild as I get the time. What I need to know is what year engines will fit in my car without modifications? I want to be able to swap parts without having to worry about different parts on each engine. I have the Bentley manual and it does not really cover this subject. Any ideas?
Thanks, Kevin

All Tr6 6 engines were the same block . Heads and manifold changes along with the manditory emmision changes of course.

The TR250's and '69 TR6's also had different cranks (longer) and flywheels from '70 and on TR6's. You can use an early crank in a later block or vice versa but you need the correct flywheel to go with it. The intake ports changed positions, the exhaust ports did not. The later, longer intake manifold improves torque but you can't use it on an early head. The exhaust manifold did change from single to dual outlet in '72. Other than the crank and flywheel, most stuff seems to be pre or post 1972. Other than emissions stuff which seemed to change yearly.

I received a pm about engine compression. Apparently the 69-71 had a compression of 8.5. This dropped in later years. There were a number of other changes that I just don't want to deal with in later years too. With the new information, would you say that if I want to be able to make straight swaps that I must get a 69 engine or possible a TR 250 engine? Does anyone have a source for one of these engines? I just need one that is rebuildable. Also, does anyone have a list that shows what engine serial numbers go with what years
Thanks, Kevin

There is a 70 for sale on 6pack for $450 right now.

I'm only telling you this because it's an early head and I have a 73 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
