My 72 TR6 project car's engine # has a prefix of "KE" instead of the usual "CC". Does anyone know what this means?

Yes, that it is a GT6 block. They had a shorter (76mm) stroke than did the TR6 (95mm, as I recall), but are basically the same otherwise. You would have to measure your stroke to see which you have, but I believe that the TR6 cranks can be fitted into these later GT6 blocks?
 
I'm with Andrew on this one, I have seen a few two liter blocks now which are machined to also suit the 2.5 crank. Makes sense really to use the same casting for as many cars as possible.

Another way to identify your engine is to look for the number stamped on the cylinder head up by No.1 cylinder, then look up that number on this site https://www.triumphclub.co.nz/technical.html

Somewhere, I've got an old TriumphTune catalog with instructions on how to do just that. ISTR they didn't have to machine the block at all, just remove some casting flash with a die grinder.
 
thats correct, oil pans fit each other just bumps on the GT-6 pan. the roadster factory was selling new GT-6 blocks as replacements for awhile.
 
Thanks for the information. The commision # is only 10 #'s off from the head #, and everything appears original. Assuming that it has a TR6 crank,does this have any impact on the car's value?
