TR6 TR6 engine into TR4

The engine mounts come to mind. They are different and, I believe, in different locations. Something would have to be fabbed up. There can't be too many problems, as I'm sure there are some bogus TR250's out there.

It might be interesting to do this to a rigid axle TR4 however. But, if I was going to transplant an engine into a TR4, I think I would look elsewhere...
 
Not positive, but I think the rack needs to move forward, also the brace between the turrets would need modification, and you are likely looking at a custom radiator setup. I agree with Art on other options, but I do like the straight axle and I loved the TR6 engine so this would be interesting.

Interesting question about the rack and other items. What I'll do is ask Tony at RATCO (the frame builder) when I see him next saturday, as he will definitely know what other mods would have to be made. I still think that other options are more viable. Rather then "make" a TR250, just go for the gusto and put another drive train in there. I still haven't said Japanese, but I'm getting real close to saying that. :shocked:
 
I dunno but my buddy shoehorned a GT6 engine into his TR3. Outruns my TR6 with ease. So, a TR6 engine will go into a TR4. Not sure of the mods he made but I don't think it was monumental.
 
So here is the deal, hence the question;

I have a TR3 with a bad engine.
I have a TR4 with a good engine.
I have (well as of Friday hopefully) a good spare TR6 engine.

Hmmm, I wonder if I could just shift things around here....

The easiest way to put a TR6 engine into a TR4 is to buy a TR250.

Ditto to 4aKen's comment. Why take a running car off the road to fix another one? IMHO, I would trade or sell that TR6 engine to fix the TR3 engine. That would be the easiest option if you wanted to keep both of your cars.

Personally, I would just "Re-Build" everything and have some good spares lying around in case of an emergency.

Something like Dale does with his TR6.

Not that I would put anything but a four in a four, but as you are asking, I think you would have some issue with the passenger wheel well if you dropped a six engine in there. The 6's and the 250 have a recess in the wheel arch for the carbs.
 
I'm with you guys - more of a question of intellectual curiosity than real intent. Fun to think about though. Except for the 4.0 block in the TR8 - which was done before I bought it - I've kept everything else as it was build expect for running upgrades on poly bushings and the like...

<span style="color: #990000">Actually John, I've given some thought to getting rid of all my TR6 spare parts..................

And simply carry on operational TR4 engine in my trunk.
I already have a TR4A tranny and clutch, so the TR4 engine
seems like a natural.

But probably a difficult task to perform on the side of a busy
highway!
