My TR6 seems difficult to start, especially in cold weather. Is this typical? After exhausting all I could think of, I went to a mechanic that specialized in British cars. It started right up when I picked it up, but when I got home, it wa back to the same problems of hard starts. Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Was the engine warm when you picked it up? May be simply a choke issue.

Keep your foot off the accelerator while engaging the starter.. if the choke is being used.

Park it at the mechanics at night?

Did you find out if he had done anything?

My tr4 is the same way. How old is the enginehead ( from time refurbished ), if it hasnt been refurbished take your air filters off an run it up to 2000 rpms and spray a mist of water in the intake ( it will chug but it steam cleans the head and pistons, etc ). My guy suggested this and now it runs better, starts better and shuts off without alot of run on.

Same problem with my new TR4A..was very hard to start..I was useing starting fluid from cold start all the time...I just could not figure it out..what I found was that the choke cable was adjusted to the point that it was not engaging at all..one of those things where you need two people around..never happens at my house..anyway once corrected the car starts beautifully.
