If the diff(I think) is clunking some and you know the mounts are good and everything from the wheels in has been replaced ,the only thing left is the diff right?
So remove and rebuild?
I can remove the diff no problem but can’t rebuild it . If it’s not to bad could it be just a few internal parts ? What little research I’ve done,it sounds expensive.
 
Similar situation to me. Mine developed a clunk after I welded in the frame reinforcements and I had replaced the stub axles and hubs. Ended up being a broken tooth on the crown. It would occasionally catch the broken tooth and pull it through the gears and clunk like crazy. Made it home, but the diff was toast. Replacement was much cheaper than rebuilding at the time. Don't know about used units now, but likely still the case.

I think if I was faced with the same thing again, I'd put in a used unit and rebuild my original when I could. And I'd go with a 3.45:1 ratio to get a bit better highway RPM with a non OD transmission.
