TR6 TR6 Differential bearings.

Hey all: New noise for me-sounds like the driveshaft is hitting something (tinktinktinktink), varies with speed, unaffected by braking or gear changes. Noise is occasional, but when it occurs it does go on for a bit.

No signs of drive shaft or half shafts rubbing on anything.

Recent work: Goodparts CV joint-ed 1/2 shafts and hubs.

Drive shaft U-joints check OK, rear brakes look OK.

I'm thinking the side bearings in the diff?

SO: the Q--Big deal to pull and replace the output bearings in the Diff? The shop manual @ 51.10.02 makes it look pretty easy.

Thanks, guys.

its pretty easy to get the diff flanges out,but you need a special tool to get the flanges off,to get to the seal and bearing

Bob, go ahead and order the two bearings and seals. Take them to your local machine shop and have them pressed off and on. Even if you have a press, it requires a sharp bearing puller to get between the seal and the bearing. Five minute job at your shop.

OK, looking at assembly diagrams--->I don't have to separate the driving flange from the inner axle shaft--it looks like all I have to do is undo the four bolts that hold the oil seal housing to the diff case, and the assembly (inner axle shaft, oil seal housing, oil seal and bearing) comes out. (after disconnecting the half shaft)

Looks like if you can pull the bearing off, then the inner axle shaft is free to pull out of the oil seal housing with the driving hub on it?

I mean, is it possible to replace the seal without separating the inner axle shaft from the driving hub? (I know, I'm doing the bearing, but I'm trying to lay out these pieces in my head...)

Also: The bearing outer race--does it come out with this assembly,or is it pressed into the case as a separate part?

Nevermind, guys: found the answer here

Many thanks to Phil and Wayne for their responses.
