The plinth and light on the tunnel behind the seats was present from the start of production up to and including the '72 cars. It was eliminated and replaced with one under the glove box for '73 and up. There was another light for the drivers footwell and ignition switch that came in with the '70 models for cars with steering column locks under the steering column. The glove box lamp was there for the entire production run as far as I know as was the trunk/boot lamp.
For what it's worth, I took some strip LED's and cut two pieces to fit under the dash in the passenger footwell and on the drivers side. They illuminate much better that the small incandescent bulbs that were on my '73 TR6.
Exactly what I used. That's the way I went...the strips can have an adhesive back.
I installed a courtesy light on both side of the tunnel and wired them to a toggle switch on the dashboard. They go on and off when I tell them to. I didn't want lights to be on every time the door opened and stayed on while working on the interior, running down the battery.

I installed LED lights in the footwell of my TR4, with a doorswitch and a pushpull switch. The LED's draw so little juice, that I have accidentally left the lights on for several days without draining the battery.
