Should the commission and engine numbers match on a TR6 or are they usually off by a small amount (say 200)?

Getting a British Heritage Certificate will verify whether or not you have the original motor if you can spare the $50.00. Other nice info on the certificate are options that originally came on the car, the dealership it was destined to and the vessel it rode over on. I got one for my TR4 and I believe they are available for 6's too.

TR engine numbers always ran ahead of the commission numbers. In the case of the 4 cylinders, Morgan used a bunch of them. In the case of the 6 cylinder, TVR used the engine in the 2500 series. There were the Italias, etc. Then there were always the spares I guess. Either way, I've never seen them match.

Hello, I have somewhat of a mystery I was hoping someone could help with. Background: I spotted a tr6 engine for sale on Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks as a spare from a private seller that I could use to rebuild from the ground up while I continued to cruise with top down. I never really even checked the engine numbers I bought it primarily because the valve cover was bone stock and very clean with no paint missing, almost new. It sat in the shed for a couple years but in the fall I dragged up to the workshop and started disassembly. After running through and measuring all the vitals I discovered this engine had probably less than 1000 miles on it. Original machining marks were apparent in the cylinders. Now that it's going back together I needed to validate the engine serial number and year. That's where the mystery is..The last engine made on 12/19/69 was serial number CC32142. The model engine year 1970 started at 5xxxx. The block I am working on is serial number CC34892 E 2000 serial numbers ahead of what was mfg in that year...Any ideas? Another interesting fact, the head serial number is 516323 which the table I was looking at lists the application as tr250....

Hi hohmanj. You made a smart move getting that engine. I think you're correct on the year-serial number match-ups, but most early engine #s ended in "HE" (68 & 69 anyway). Don't know how many, if any, engines after # 50,000 had the HE suffix. I have a 69 engine (CC29563HE) for spare parts.
