Hey everyone!

Im a newbie! 19 years old and im really big into hondas! Earlier this year my girlfriends dad asked me to get his triumph tr6 working for him that has been sitting in his barn the past 8-10years really dusty tires flat etc. My dad and i did alot of work on our spitfire when we had it 5 years ago but now dads onto bigger and better things (06 Corvette Z06). So i started working on it last summer. Got the tires replaced so its actaully jackable spark plugs replaced, new battery, new intake filters etc. I took the rocker shaft off and took it to my work (local subaru, buick, pontiac dealership) and put it in the parts washer (due to the fact of when i got it started the head of the motor wasnt getting oil) but it still doesnt spit out any oil on the rocker shaft.... now it might be that i havent changed the oil yet and that its lost all its vescosity....

Any suggestions on what i do?
also the brakes are rusted and im thinking about replacing them anything else i should look for or do before i do that?

LET ME KNOW GUYS!
THANKS!T

One good idea is to change all of her fluids before trying to start her, with oil and filter being probably the most important.

Make sure you have oil pressure before trying to actually start her.

Cool, you should look up the Honda S800 some time. I was your age about 12 years ago, I was into 4X4 Subarus, Merkur XR4Ti's and BMW's when I found my first Triumph Spitfire.
Change the oil first. I know it can be a drag when your excited, but you could ruin the engine if you don't. There could be a litre of water, gas, antifreeze, anything in there. Don't take the chance. Then you can get excited and play with it. Good luck.

Adam.

Definitely change the oil and filter. I would also remove/ & change the spark plugs, but also squirt a shot of oil into each cylinder. Turn the engine over w/o starting it (coil wire removed) to make sure you have oil pressure before trying to start it. Or better spin the oil pump with a drill motor (CCW) to prime the oil pump.
Check the search feature of this forum for subjects like "rebuilt engine start up" to give additional info. After sitting 8 years, all of the oil has drained down into the oil pan, so trying to start the engine w/o any lubrication on the bearings, rockers, pistons, etc. just results in metal on metal; no a good thing.

Hello, Fonzie544, and welcome to the Forum!

For a complete list of what to do for your TR6, check member Tony Barnhill's article "Awakening a Sleeping MG" on his website: https://www.theautoist.com. Even though it's specific to MG's, it applies to any vehicle that's been in storage. Very comprehensive.

Be sure to keep us updated on your progress.
