TR6 TR6 Center Dash Support

I looked through the files but I can not see a clear consensus on how to get the center brace relocated after several years of being out. I have received some invaluable gifts of knowledge on this service like the rope trick to get the cylinder head off. I hope there are some good technics for the replacement of the brace.

Strange, mine bolted right into perfectly lined up holes at
the bottom of either leg..and two at the top.
Are you sure you are asking about the plinth?

Did you replace carpeting? add Sound proofing.
All makes it a harder deal

It can be tough to line up especially if you've installed new carpet, underlayment and sound deadening. It's also possilbe that the captive nuts have been cross threaded or stripped. I drill mine out and re-tapped them up one size and used new bolts. The only invaluable tool that I use is a big awl that lets me gently or not line parts up. In the pictures below it was used for the mounting brackets on my Miata seats. But I also used it for the dash support.

Sorry for the delay but I have a few home improvement projects going at the same time. The carpet was replaced and I wish I was close enough to worry about lining up the holes ha.

When you leave a project too long things just don't fit back as as easy as they came out; at least not on Triumph body parts. These supports are a known problem if you leave them out for years. Ive had the problem before and somehow worked it back in. I know I promised my self that I would never leave it out for a long period time but I just don't have control of my time then. Now it has been out for many years and I need to get it back PLUS I put in new carpet. Carpet? it would not go in with out carpet; Im not close enough to worry about cutting the carpet yet.

Don,

Nothing that a really big hammer won't solve.

Cheers,

If its been out for a while, as in years, there is a possibility that the dash has sagged a little bit. Which could make lining up the support a bit more difficult.

Gosh, I was hoping for some kind of ingenius rig that would jack the dash upward; the hammer never crossed my mind. Ha
