TR6 TR6 Center Console

For a '71 TR6, is there an interior light switch in the center radio console? I am looking for a replacement console, which is missing, and want to make sure I get the correct type. From looking at various photos it appears that there is a light switch in some. The '75 owner's manual shows such a switch.

If someone could point me to a set of detailed interior photos of an original '71 TR6, that would be much appreciated. Or if someone has an original '71 TR6 and would be willing to take some interior photos, even better!

Thanks,
Julian

Basically they are all the same. The Metal part has the hole and all you have to do is cut out the cover if there is no hole.

Julian - there is a good book for reference called the Original TR6 by Bill Piggott.

Very useful reference, but doesn't cover all the variations.

Could also drive you nuts if you try to replicate the cars in the book...be warned.

Righty-ho ... I need the Piggott book. So many books, but no TR6 yet ... !

If anyone has a spare TR6 center console they would like to sell, please let me know! Thanks.

Ebay is awash in them aren't they. I thought they where prolific as headlights and hats.

Well, I just missed one on Ebay: didn't go high enough. There was another last week which went. There's a buy-it-now one available but it looks like the radio aperture has been greatly enlarged. There's another coming up which I'll have a go at, but it's rather hit and miss.

It would be much better to find one here /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Just a word of caution on some of these consoles, as you have noticed, some have been modified, but just as important is the condition of the padded vinyl cover, if damage it will cost ~$180 to replace and is somewhat difficult to do. Buying a used one then having to refurbish it may cost more the the reproduction offered by TRF.

Hi Ray,

I think you have a very good point. I'm wondering whether a used one is a false economy.

I think the later model TR6 used the interior light switch.

Rimmer Bros has a cover which is half the cost of the Big Three and probably the same one.
