TR6 TR6 carb rebuilds?

How often or how many miles until TR6 carbs require to be rebuilt? 1969 TR6 - all stock except wires.

Twin Stromberg carbs 175CDs rebuilt by Jeff Palya three
years ago. History:

Year one= less than 100 miles total between breakdowns
Year two= 1000 miles total between breakdowns
year three= 5000+ miles with no breakdowns.

Is it about time to send them back for a new rebuild?
What is a general rebuild schedule?

Lucas dizzy rebuilt by Advance 3 years ago-1000 miles driven.
Dizzy got a tuneup by Jeff January 2009 w/5000+ miles driven since.

How often do Lucas dizzy's need to rebuilt? years or miles?

Thanks as always.

Properly maintained, both should easily last 10 years or 100,000 miles (or more) between major rebuilds. I wouldn't do a rebuild just from age any sooner than that.

Check your owner's manual for the recommended maintenance. I like to examine the carb diaphragms as part of a major tune-up, but as yet I've never had one fail. I also check the operation of the advance mechanisms in the distributor, by watching the timing mark move under a timing light as I rev the engine up (centrifugal advance), and apply vacuum to the advance capsule (if fitted). If the mark jumps around, or jerks instead of moving slowly, there is a problem in the dizzy.

Don't forget the drop or two of oil under the rotor every minor tune-up.

I did mine myself many years ago,& 10 - 15K miles.
They're really simple to rebuild, but make sure that the
tab on the rubber diaphram is positioned right.

Dale,

If the oil is staying in the carbs and it is running well, as your videos show you are fine. Also the drop or two of oil under the rotor twice a year doesn't hurt. You know the rest of the routine by now ad everything else in yours is new, so you should be ready for a lot of driving.

By the way, what camera do you use for those and how did you mount it? Any lead for a microphone to pickup the engine sound?

The things that kill carbs quick are excessive dirt, and extended times of un-use. Niether of which you are putting those carb through. Like everybody here says, lots of miles! Those carbs are like new. regular cleaning/ inspection and the occasional adjustment to keep things in line is all they should need for many years and better part of 100k miles. same with the dizzy. Regular lube of the advance mech, keep the points adjusted/ replace when worn and the basic dizzy should be a long term item.
Don, I think he's got some kind of rig to hold the camera. I haven't seen it yet, but knowing Dale I bet it's pretty slick.

I'm pretty sure he said he banded it to the visor.

<span style="color: #990000">Paul,
Don is correct. I bought a Casio Exilim camera and
rubber band it to the visor- in the down position.
The Casio is very thin and the video on/off button
is on the back, far upper right corner. I mount the
camera on the visor with right edge just sticking out
so I can push the video button on and off.

The mic is in the front and I make sure the mic hole
is covered by a rubber band. Otherwise all I get is
harsh wind noise.

I am still experimenting because I'd like get some video
of the gauges as well as the roadway.

Hope this helps.

Not to gloat or anything

 I bow to thee, oh wise Don! hehehehehe.. But I was a little right. what he's done is slick! I guess I mis-read a while back when Dale said he was testing a new camera rig, it really ment he was fine tuning the placement of the rubber band! hehehe.
I gotta say, it works better than many pro-rigs I've seen footage from!

Did we ever see the trip though the mountains? That would be great to see in the depths of winter.

<span style="color: #CC0000">Eric- No I have not. It is a difficult run in My Jeep
Wrangler and would be even more so In my TR6.

I have not made the attempt simply because I thought
there was no longer any interest here at BCF. If there
is interest, I'll prep the car and make the attempt; with
video clips..

Dale, thanks for the info. Any external mic or just what's in the camera?

That is an interesting camera idea. Now if I could actually ever get the visors to stay in place. Hmm......

When we're freezing and looking at snow there is always interest in seeing someone else enjoy warm weather in their car. Do it and film it. please.

Dale,

I'm interested in seein you make that mountain trip...I was patiently waitin for you to post the video. Not likely to make a trip to PR myself, but i like seein your TR crusin around PR.

You don't have to drive over Mount Everest. Just some cool scenes of the island would be cool.
