TR6 TR6 Camshaft Timing

I am installing the camshaft as part of my engine rebuild. I have 2 different specs, one from the original Stanpart drawing, showing intake opening at 10 deg BTDC, and closing at 50 deg ABDC for a duration of 240. I have another from a 1974 Clymer manual that shows opening at 18 deg BTDC and closing at 58 deg ABDC for a duration of 256. I have a Moss cam. It has a duration of 254. Any suggestions on optimal setting? These are based on 0.010 tappet clearance.

Have your cam degreed professionally. It's worth every penny and that way if you don't know the specks of your cam they know how to figure it out. I only spent $70.
 
What info came with the cam? Is this a replacement cam? Should be able to use a degree wheel to set it up....
 
No info came with the cam. Moss provided me with the original Triumph Stanpart drawing which is the 10deg BTDC. I am not sure this cam matches their drawing. No cam card is available. I was wondering what other people had used when degreeing their cams. It seems that there are lots of people here who have rebuilt their engines.
 
If you don't get a spec card and specific instructions with a brand new cam, your project is starting out in a very bad manner.

I would send it back and get one from a supplier that has some sort of a reasonable QC process. How are you to know what the specific break in process is, let alone settings for valve lash and timing specific to that particular grind and duration.

I wouldn't go down this path if I were you, unless I'm missing a lot of information about what you have in writing from them.
