TR6 @#$*& TR6 Buzzer!

My 1975 TR6's seat belt warning buzzer buzzes randomly while driving, sometimes for 10 or 15 minutes straight but generally around 20% of the time I'm driving. It can happen at any time, and can last from 1 second to 15 minutes. All of the switches are disconnected (seat and belt), and reconnecting them didn't make a difference. I tried replacing the unit (which had to be relocated to the side of the glovebox because I can't get the old one out), but nothing happened except the new unit is mercifully quieter.

Obviously there must be an intermittent short in the wiring. I'd like to disable it without having to rewire 1/2 the car, but it's not so easy. The unit can't be simply disconnected without disabling the ignition.

Does anyone have a procedure to bypass this thing so that I can drive in peace?

(<span style="font-style: italic">BTW, I wouldn't think of driving the car without buckling up anyway.</span>)

You should be able to bypass this but you should see if there are any implications as to the rest of the car's electrical behavior. A couple of us here with a 1974 had issues with a similar thing resulting in funky ignition behavior, but I'm not sure if those issues exist with a 1975.

Here is the Advance wiring diagram; https://www.advanceautowire.com/tr2506.pdf

It doesn't look like bypassing it will impact anything, but I'd wait for someone with more experience will jump in here in a bit.

Are you sure about that? Dan's schematic says otherwise for a 75. On a 74, you would need to jumper the white/red to the white/orange at the module (which can be done with a length of stiff wire stuffed into the connector).

Remove the left door jam switch and take the second wire off of the switch and tape it over. Good bye buzzer and no issues to deal with. Just make sure you pull the buzzer wire, not the lamp wire. If you pull the wrong one, you're lights won't work, but it will still buzz.

EDIT: That is your under dash (courtesy) lamps won't work, NOT the headlamps.

BINGO! This worked perfectly. Thank you Paul! :thankyousign:

One oddity, however. I didn't bother disconnecting the battery since the key was off and (I thought) this system wasn't hot w/o the key. To my surprise as soon as I started removing the (nearly disintegrated) door switch the buzzer started working. Needless to say I immediately hit the quick disconnect.

Are these buzzers supposed to be hot? Or did it somehow short to the courtesy lights? :confuse:

My bad. I forgot to mention that they are hot all the time. It's been so long since I did this that I forgot. Sorry about that!!

An Alternative, just pull the buzzer off. No need to mess with the wiring.

Cheers
I tried that first. They have the power to the starter relay wired through it so that if you pull the buzzer the car won't start. I could've cut and spliced the wires together, but I really didn't want to hack into the harness or create a connection that'll loosen over time and leave me stranded.

Again, thanks for everyone's help.

Just to close this off. The 75, and 76 use a different module for the seat belt buzzer. My car is a 76 and yanking the buzzer didn't affect anything else.
