TR6 TR6 brake squeal

I had loud brake sqeal when I bought the car. From what I read on the BCF, this is casued by the back of the brake pad metal against the piston on the caliper. When I replaced the the front pads recently, I used some of the antisqeal strips from Moss. I did this right before I went on a trip. The strips worked great for about the first 2,000 miles, and now I am right back where I started. I am sure it did not help that I was towing a small trailer. Is this normal for a TR6? Did I do something wrong in putting on the antisqueel strips? Any other ideas on what I can do?

I had a similiar issue on both TR6s I've owned. Never solved it on the first -every couple thousand miles I re-gooped the front pads (even though they had the squeal plate/shim installed). On the 74 TR6 I have now, it has been fixed for several years (and a couple 10 thousand miles). When I replaced the front pads, the noise started. I tried the Anti-Squeal shims from TRF and haven't had a problem since. I think I also got their retaining kit, and replacing the pins made a big difference. That was before I had a digital camera and kept track of such things, but it seems something was different about the pins -though I can't remember what, and can't see it without taking something apart.

The squeal can be from the pad/piston as suggested, or could be from the pad/pin. -My old pins had significant marks where they were rubbing, and that might be normal and noiseless. The noise is irritating enough that I opted to deal with it once and forget about it. And did. I hope you are as lucky.

I'm gunna try to install mine this weekend....

And you'll report back and tell us if it works.... right? Having driven in front of you, I can vouch for your brake squeal :yesnod:

I did it in my garage, took all of 15 mins.
Then I took it for a ride around the block with no sqeal at all. :driving:
