TR6 TR6 Brake Balance Problem

Hi Shawn,

My rears are in full lockup, way before the front will lock up so I toatlly don't feel safe, especially in the wet weather (here we have 2 seasons rain and construction).

Yup I did look at all that from Lee's website (which is where I got the idea to just do the rear) and also the article in the VTR site. They are contradicting.

I think that there is more variables to the equation, that they minimized by testing on the same car, which is not the same set up as your car or my car or anyone else's.

Based on my own experiences from the last few days, I tend to believe that the Toyota front calipers (with semi metallic pads) is definitly a required part of the equation. Since I had orignialy planned to put on a set of Toyota calipers, I am going to remove the Morgan rears for now, and when I have the time I'll do the whole upgrade the way it's supposed to be done.

Cheers and thanks!

Rooster,

If they are locking up that quickly then it is definitely a safety problem. Do what you need to do to get safe again. If you still experience a similar problem after adding the Toyota 4-pot calipers then you have another avenue of investigation. That could be that your M/C is at fault. How old is it? Is it new or has it been rebuilt a few times?

The MC is a "new rebuilt" one. My original one was shot, and needed to be bored again, so I got a remanufactured one. It's about 3 years old. I did check it for leaks and it seems to be ok. It's possible that because it is a slightly larger diameter from stock it's affecting the balance as well, but then again I remember that the diameter was constant all the way though the MC so it shouldn't affect the balance. I could be wrong though.

Yup, I'm going to make it safe again, by going back to stock. Once I get all the stuff together and some time to test and tweak it I'll give it another go. I really want to have brakes that are up to modern standards, so I'm not going to give up.

Just a quick update for any one who is interested...

I reinstalled the original rear cycliners and tested the car on the weekend. Front's now lock up first, rear no longer locks up. It's back to normal.

I'm going to enjoy driving it for a while ( /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif ) before I go whole hog and do the full conversion.

Cheers and thanks to everyone for their help!
