I'm thinking about getting a bra for my freshly painted TR6 but I'm wondering whether they damage the paint? Up here in Edmonton there aren't many cars without a crack in the windshield (lots oh rocks on the road). So... a bra may help prevent some rock chips... I see that Victoria British has one... any comments?

They will damage the paint. Road dust combined with the constant micro-movement of the bra and the little bit of flapping at the edges will permanently scar your paint. I wouldn't do it, especially on a new, soft paint job.
 
Don't do it. I had one on my 911 and it ruined a perfect original paint job within a month's time.

A better solution is clear bra, a clear film made by 3M called ScotchCal that is made for your front end and is computer cut to fit. Applied like window film with water and alcohol after the paint is cured, nearly invisible and repels chips. Try xpel.com, invinca-shield.com, can also be custom cut in the field to fit your car if a kit in not available.
 
I ran a bra on an RX-7 I had in the '80s. I didn't have the major paint problems others have experienced, but I wouldn't suggest it on a 6. The frontal painted area is minimal on these cars between the grill, bumper and air dam.
Add that to the limited driving the car will see and a bra would be wasted $ in my eyes.
Get some touch up paint, a good micro paintbrush, sanding supplies and a buffer. You will have products you can use toward maintaining your beautiful paint job for probably similar money.

As others have stated, those things are the worst thing to do to your paint.
 
A friend worked hard through his grade and high school years and saved his money like a true miser. We graduated in '64 and he bought a new Malibu and promptly installed seat covers. Not understanding why and wondering at the wisdom I asked him why. I was told how it would save the seats and bring a much better price when he sold or traded.

My question was why not enjoy it yourself instead of saving it for someone you probably do not even know? It was at that time I realized we had nothing in common. I have no idea if his plan turned out. I might add that he did not understand my '64 TR4 either.

I agree Tom. And most of the time, those things are butt ugly anyhow.
 
I ran one on a Nissan Maxima that I had in the '90's. I kinda liked the look: Car's paint was white, so it set it off nicely. I only used it on long road trips, however.

I did notice minor marks in the paint, near the back edge of it. The small movement in it, combined with the small particles of dirt, was grinding into the paint...
