Some of you might be aware of my continuing starting problems w/ my new-to-me '74. Determined to not waste another Saturday, I braved the 80º weather, and drove my TR3 to our bi-weekly breakfast meet. While there, I checked over a nice '74, and noticed a more complex ground system than I have. This was a stranded lead from the battery to a ground point just below the accelerator cross-shaft, and then from that to the engine, and somewhere else on the body.

Are you 6 owners running something similiar, or is this overkill? My 3 has a separate body to engine lead, I don't think my 6 does...

Happily, when I got home, Dan Masters' Electrical Bible had come in the mail! Exciting reading this week!

I have the two grounds as you described above on mine, but I'm not sure where everything leads and ends and it's too cold to go out in the garage now. But I will do it tomorrow.

The heavy stranded ground wire from the battery to the engine block, grounding to the firewall on the way, is nice instead of the more modern-looking insulated battery ground wire. I like it because I often use the heavy braided grounding strap to affix the ground clamp for various diagnostic instruments. Very easy to clamp onto and doesn't scar the cable. I got mine from TRF. I kinda think that these are OE.
