Loc: Endicott, NY Thanks one and all. I will connect the W/Y wire to (+) side of coil, W/B from dst. points to (-) side of coil. That leaves me with a wire that looks to be red under the cloth sheathing that needs to go to the coil?.....and the external resistor wire goes to what side of coil? This ext. resistor was bolted to the engine block under the same bolt as the coil bracket and has just one wire.

You might want to do some tests to be sure what you have, as it has been modified to some extent.

However, I'm guessing that the reddish wire has been added as a direct feed from the ignition switch (bypassing the original resistor wire in the harness). If that is correct, the reddish wire would go to one end of the ballast resistor, and the other end would get a new wire to the (+) terminal on the coil.

To verify, turn the engine until the points are closed and turn the key on. Check that the red wire has a full 12v, while the (+) terminal of the coil only has 6-9 volts.

PS, you should probably also check that your coil requires an external ballast resistor. To do that, disconnect the wire to the dizzy (or turn the engine until the points are open) and measure the resistance between the (-) and (+) terminals. Should be around 1.5 ohms; if you find 3 ohms or more then the coil does not require a ballast (and using a ballast will result in a weak spark).

That's not an external resistor. It's a static suppressor for the older AM radio, It has no affect on what you are trying to accomplish.
The wire covered with the cloth sheath is the ballast resistor wire that i described in my previous post.
Time has faded the colors and possibly bled thru, but the ballast wire is solid core and normally conjoined to the W/Y wire. In other words the Pink/White and the Yellow/ White were on the same female spade connector coming out of the harness.
