TR5/TR250 TR5

Yea, isn't it amazing what 40 years of advancing technology, modern fuel injection, engine management and a well designed turbo system can do for a car...

apples and oranges, apples and oranges...

The VW Rabbit came out in 1975 with basically the same engine and suspension set up as my non Turbo Jetta. I can only imagine how quick the turbo model is.

Not apples and oranges by any means.

(But thanks for the rolling eyeballs. For the life of me I can't figure out why the BCF Triumph posts are down by half since last year.)

SO what year Jetta are you talking about? There has been loads of refinement. I had a 1980 Rabbit at one time. While it was a wonderful little car, my stock TR6 was as fast and just as smooth at high speed. With mild tuning my brother couldn't keep up with my TR6 in his MkIII 2.0 Jetta. Although it did cruise better than my Rabbit or TR6. There is a reason the VW community calls it a 2.slow. My TR6 in current tune has stayed with a 225hp Audi TT to over 80mph. Suprised the crud out of both of us too.

Ohoh, I hear a race challenge coming on ...

Hey Shaun, are you going to the next Conclave meeting? I hear you were at the February one, I missed it.

I was at the January and February meeting but couldn't make it last month. Will most likely be there this month.

Hi Folks,

TR5 up-date:

She sits at $23.6K / 3 days to go / 10 bids & 4 bidders.

I don`t believe this person is going to reach his sales goal of $40K+. What a surprise!!

Russ

Couple of TR5's for sale in the UK right now , the links are on the TR register site. One for $60,000 ish, the other one even more. Not going to see many TR6's go for that kind of money. Maybe he is selling on the wrong continent....

:iagree: That's what I said a week ago on one of the other threads on this eBay sale. Mainly because the seller said something in his ad about interest from Europe. Maybe he should have listed it on the UK eBay site along with, or instead of, the North American site.

One of the members of our MG Club recently shipped a car from New Zealand for $1100, with (even more important) no missing or broken parts. So, shipping a car by container is not an outrageous cost.

The problem there is that the thing that makes this one so desirable in the US (LHD) is a drawback in the UK.

Yes, it would be a desirable car on the continent but TR enthusiasts are likely far fewer in France, Germany, et al.

Hi Folks,

Here`s another AM up-date on the TR5:

($23.8K / 2-1/2 days to go / 11 bids & 5 bidders).

Interesting; There`s one person designated (U***C) that has made the majority of bids; 7 of them to be exact.

Its not going to make the $41K; I don`t believe??

Russ

Good Morn`n SearcherMan;

I have been in Sales all my life. One thing I learned was "NOT" to be afraid to ask any "PROBING" questions.

So; "Are You the seller of this TR5"?

Russ & All on this forum.

you're kidding I hope. this was all done just to build up bids? does BCF get a donation?

"WOW";

This is really one of "THEE" best sites in the world!!!

You just never know who your going to meet here!!!

"WOW"! Thats all I`m going to say!!

Russ

Annapolis is in Maryland, not Virginia.

Good Morn`n Folks,

Well, This AM she sits at $30.1K and 1 day / 9hrs to go.

I`d say "SearcherMan" is doing pretty darn good. It just may meet his requirements or get reasonably close????

Twosheds, Your correct. Annapolis is in Md. not Virginia but who is to say what one can put down here to protect his real identity?

Russ

Good sense of humor today. Looks like the needed reserve has been met.

Not according to the listing.
Perhaps he invested 50c to fire up the old vacuum at the carwash...

The latest issue of the TR Register's magazine has four TR5s for sale. There are two newly rebuilt cars of a very good standard for ÂŁ21,995 and ÂŁ24,950. (Double those prices to get US Dollars) There is a very nice car that has featured in Classic Cars magazine for ÂŁ18,500, and the fourth car is being sold by someone who bought it in 1974 and it has recently undergone a professional overhaul for ÂŁ12,950.
These make the one on eBay seem a bit pricey, but I imagine the price is governed by the rarity value of the car in the USA.
