Hi folks - hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

I finally got the TR4A running pretty well by disassembling the carbs. Now that she pulls (like a train I might proudly ad - whoa hoa!) it surfaced a new issue.

When I am accelerating and then lift-off her butt takes a half-step to the right. Very noticeable, and always happens not just when I lift all of a sudden.

Any ideas as to cause/cure for me? She is a solid axel TR4A.

My 66 solid axle did the exact same thing... I sold it before I fixed it. I always felt it was either loose "U" bolts, loose spring mounting points, or a bad wheel bearing (but it diden't make the "bad wheel bearing noise") I really think it was loose "u"bolts.
Jack up the rear and suppourt it under the leaf springs, not the axle, This way the axle is not holding the car up, and it's not being pulled tight agenst the frame by the springs. then try moving the axle. by hand and with a pry bar. If there is ANY movement between the axle and springs ya got a problem.
Also look for any fresh orange dust, and shiney spots. Indicating metal rubbing agenst metal.
Good luck.

Oh yea! The 318 is great little car. We havent put many miles on it yet. I bought it real cheap, it needs a few little things, but We absolutly love it. tight, peppy, fun, good "old german car"smell, I've got it packed away for the salt season. I can't wait till spring.
I'd love to get an MGB GT as a daily. I like those.
But I gotta keep focused on the TR2 or it'll never get done

I think you'll really enjoy the 318is. Not sure what sort of shape she is in, but make sure all of her steering and transmission mounts are OK. I had to refresh a couple of mine and boy did it make a difference. I'm sure you already found all of this, but evidential they are pretty engine chip friendly as well.
