TR4/4A TR4A Wheel Colour?

Saw a pic of a white 4A that had red wheels to match the red interior and I was wondering if there was a standard colour of 4A wheels from the factory originally or did they match them up depending on trim or body colour? Most of my TR knowledge is on the "3" and those wheels came in a silver/grey as stock.

If you are interested in painting your wheels but don't have the necessary equipment, Eastwood has an aerosol silver wheel paint that is an excellent match.

"selling point"... "no additional charge"... gotta love that spin.

Wonder what the real reason was... wouldn;t be too surprised if money was at the root of it.

Anyway, the Spa White wheels on the TR4 sorta grow on me, a real 60s look I think.

Hi Karl;

Kind of Interesting cause just Yesterday I was skimming thru My Orig. TR4/5/250 etc Book: There was noted that the Orig. Wheel Color would have Matched the Body Color of the Car: Silver/Grey was also avail. and requested by many a New Owner: But Orig. Factory would have been "Same as Body Color"! Moss Motors has a "Super Great" Aerosal that matches the Silver/Grey to a Tee: I`ve personally used it on Several Occassions and works Just "Great": Strip the Old Paint, Rust etc off first; Prime & Paint to a Brand New Finish:

Have Fun;

Russ
PS: I`m referring to "Disc Wheels"; Which are You referring to; Disc or Wire?

This would have been true for TR2s & TR3s but somewhere along the way TR3As got silver discs. This continued into the early TR4s with later TR4s using Spa White as noted above. To my knowledge they never went back to body color for TR wheels after the TR3.

I was refering to disc. Check out the cover of the new Spring/summer Moss catalogue. On the cover is a white TR4 with red interior and red wheels! Maybe just an owners personal choice there?

You are correct, George. I have a book that pinpoints the change in the TR3A wheel color...maybe at the start of the "A" production?

I Apologize!! I must have read the Script In-Correctly!! I stand or sit Corrected!!

Here`s a Quote from "The Orig Triumph TR4/4A/5/6" by Bill Piggott: Quote; "Disc Wheels were finished in Silver Lacquer or Aluminum wheel paint"; Un-Quote!!

That`s It: That`s All this Book has to say!

Russ

I've seen very original early TR4's that had a creamy white wheel but only on Red cars. I guess that could have been a dealer change though.

I have always like this car, it's different:

In the book Triumph Cars in America several TR4's are shown with spa white wheels. These are original phots from the 60's. I'll scan a few and post them later this week.

That would be the colour that I have seen.

Personally I Like the Look of Spa White Wheels against any Ext. or Int. Color: It does give the Car that Real Antique Look of days gone by:

Hey Geo Hahn; Why are`nt You back In Maui? What were You doing there to begin with? What yr. was the Pic taken?

What does She look like today?

Regards, Russ
