Yeah, me too. What I really hate is when I have to make the tool I need to make the tool ... This morning in the shower I was pondering how to line-bore an OHC cylinder head, which means I need to form a square hole at an angle in a (preferably) hardened steel rod. Which means I need to build an EDM machine first ... then the EDM machine needs a coolant pump and it just goes on and on.

The TR4A SPC lists a 142403 for the steering lock stop (which is NLA at Moss and TRF). I'll have to look at my spare TR4A front suspension to see what it has installed.

Ok, my mistake I guess.

I checked an old Moss catalog (PDF version, on my hard drive for fast access) and it listed 661-490 for both TR2-4 and TR4A, so I assumed they were the same part.

Checking now, 661-490 is listed for TR6 in my old catalog as well. But the Moss web site shows both 4A & 6 as NLA, with no part number.

Then looking at the Revington TR4A on-line SPC, it shows 142403 for the 4A as being superceded by 156111, which they (and TRF) have listed as available.

I'll check my supercession listing when I get home, see what it has to say.
 
Interesting that TRF's database shows that as for the TR6 only according to the description - "T6 STOP,FSU,STEERING" Field Service Unit? :smile:

They show the 142403 for T46 - "T46 STOP,STEERING" but presumably that's TR4A-6.

Well, my supercession listing doesn't mention any of those three numbers.

Not sure where that leaves us :crazyeyes:

But I'll bet it would be easy enough to fabricate something. It's not like there are any critical dimensions; just saw off a suitable slab of rod and poke an off-center hole through it. Of course, it would help if you had one to copy ... sorry, I don't.

That could explain the differences in part number then. My TR4/A workshop manual is very specific about the need to adjust the stops (although it's not clear if that applies to 4A or not); while the 250/6 manual doesn't seem to mention it at all.
Not even the need to remove the stop in order to unscrew the vertical link from the trunnion!

But just to add to the confusion, one of the diagrams clearly shows the stop, with offset, on a TR4A-6 style trunnion.
 
Thanks for the info guys.

The stop on the other trunnion snapped this AM when I was trying to undo it. Wasn't much pressure either before the bolt snapped...

Oh well - at least I have a matched set now!
