TR4/4A TR4A Top

On my 4 (not a 4A) it was original and white (possibly Spa White). The car came originally with a white top so perhaps this had something to do with it.

FWIW on TR3s I believe they were body color.

Late sidescreen cars, as well as TR4 convertibles, had a sort of "tan" (sandlewood or somesuch) frame. I don't know if that continued for some period of time on the TR4A, but I suspect that at least towards the end of the TR4A run they might have gone to black.

I don't know what constitutes "late sidescreen cars", but my TR3 (TS23677L) has that sort of "tan" frame, and I remember an eary TR4 ('62) that had the same color.

Both our TS296xxL (TR3A) and CT667xxL (TR4A) came to us with tan(Sandalwood) frames. I used steel wool to strip a small section of the frames before painting, and found a record of several color changes since new starting with tan.

Sandalwood is actually the Rustoleum spray color I used that most nearly matched the original color. Original was a little paler but the hue seems correct.

Some came with black too.

On a 66 #58457 this is what I think was the original top. I looked all over for tan inside and ended up putting on blk w/ gray inside. As a result the frame and straps are now blk spray can. If I ever run across blk w/ that tan inside I would redo it all.

Thanks for the responses.
Great Forum for getting quick, informed answers.
Looks like mine is stock w/ "sandlewood". Pretty sure based on scratches and chips, that the frame's never been repainted.
I'll try to match what's there when I repaint.
