TR4/4A tr4a speedo jumps

I assume its missing a spring, whenever I hit a bump the needle jumps to like 80mph and back, my speed was about 20.

anyone else run into this?

Nissonger rebuilt mine about 7 years ago for exact same probably. When reinstalling replaced cable and angle drive too.

Also had them rebuild Rachel at same time.

Not a job you want to do yourself - rebuilding that is. There is instrumentation required for calibration and adjustment.

Best to renew the cable & right angle drive too, as said.

It's easy to remove. Two round nuts behind the speedo, disconnect the cable, and it'll pop right out of the front of the dash.

Nissonger rebuilt mine about 7 years ago for exact same PROBLEM. When reinstalling replaced cable and angle drive too.

Also had them rebuild TACHOMETER at same time.

Thanks guys, I have rebuilt everything from a 31 model A ford when I was 12 to advanced computers so I would dive right in but I also value your opinions and if you say its not wise then I trust that.

Well I'll offer a contrary opinion -- armed with nothing more than Tony's excelllent site I opened, disassembled and repaired both my speedos (rusty binding odo gear shaft & filthy oily drag cup. Also recalibrated when done -- not perfect at low speeds but accurate where is matters most (45+mph) steady throughout the range.

BTW -- I think the angle drive will only be there if you have an OD gearbox.

Lubing the cable is prudent, easy to remove the inner cable and inspect (for frayed wire, kinks, etc) before deciding to replace. If you can fine a local speedo shop they can make a replacement inner cable (if you need one) for short money -- esp nice if you still have the original silver/dirty white outer housing (many replacement are black).
