TR4/4A TR4A Side Glass Adjustment

Our drivers door glass is out of position tilting too far forward and the top edge is hitting the windshield frame. The door glass assembly was partially disassembled when we got the car so we just bolted everything back together but we cant seem to figure out how to correct the tilt. Any suggestions? Thanks

It's been a while, but if I recall correctly, there is a stud on the lifter mechanism that goes it a slot on the door, with a washer and nut that you loosen and move in the slot to adjust the angle of the window.

We found an adjuster that has a tab that slides back and forth in the lifter mechanism to raise and lower the rear of the glass and have loosened and adjusted every other bolt in the assembly but cant seem to raise the front of the glass to the correct position. What are we missing.......

Stinger,

You might check out this thread:

TR4 side glass adjustment

This points to a difference between TR4/4A side glass and TR6 side glass so not sure if your driver side has possibly been replaced with the wrong one as they indicate that a TR6 glass would be tilted farther forward if used in a TR4/4A. Is it just the driver's side and if so, can you compare the driver side window with the passenger side window (out of the car)?

The other thing mentioned at the end of that thread is adjusting the rake of the windshield but you would expect both the driver side and passenger side windows to have the same issue if that were the case.

It's been too long since I did mine but I took a quick look at one of my spare doors and I did not really see a lot of adjustment and nothing is really mentioned in any of the manuals (Factory or Haynes).

Its just the drivers side window. The passenger window works perfectly and Im using it as a guide to see what might be wrong with the drivers window. I checked the window markings and they look the same and the glass appears original. One thing I did notice is that the window regulator track that holds the glass is tilted down on the forward end more than the passenger track. Like you I cant find a lot of adjustment procedures in the manuals or service bulletins so I may have to remove the whole assembly to find out whats going on.

Please let us know what you find.

Fixed!!! After several tries to adjust the drivers window we finally figured out the front regulator bar was bent in a downward position. Removed the glass and regulator, heated it up and bent it back into position. Put it all back together and now the glass works correctly. The only thing we could figure out was the regulator grease dried out making the window hard to open or close and someone forced it and bent the rod. We're going to grease up all the regulator joints in both doors before putting the door panels back on so hopefully this won't happen again!

Glad you sorted it out. I alway "help" my windows up and down, holding the glass and lifting or pushing while turning the crank. The joints on the arms really are not all that stable, and it doesn't take much resistance to get them out of alignment.

Even on my TR8, I do the same thing.

I think Triumph was really on to something with the side screens .

Good point. Think we will start helping ours too. The regulator assembly does seem to be a bit flimsy.
