TR4/4A TR4A seat replacement?

Anyone have a preference for replacement seats for my 4A? My wife would like headrests and an adjustable seat back for long rides. I had a Mazda GLC years back that had a flat floor but I'm sure there must be tons of options. Anyone have a favorite?

The seats are pretty narrow compared to modern cars. My suggestion would be to get some TR6 seats, re-do them to match(headrest and all). When you cover the seats, add extra padding, there is room and the results will make long drives a treat.
Since this is a bolt in change it will look better and preserve the TR.(dont forget to save your old seats for some day!!)

I just picked up a book from Moss called How to Improve Your TR250, 5, and 6. One of the things that they talk about is putting Mazda Miata seats in a TR, and that they are a good fit, but you have to make adjustments to fit the seat brackets. There is a version of the book for the TR4A also, written by Roger Williams. The publishers website is www.velocebooks.com. It is a British publication. There are a lot of British specialty seat manufacturers listed in the book, but no web addresses. The TR6 version of the book is excellent. I bet the TR4A one is good too.

Paul Tegler's website offers a good documentary on installing Miata seats in a Spitfire/GT6. I've installed them in my GT6 and can't say enough good things about them.

The best thing about the Miata seats, aside from the excellent comfort and added support, is the price. Junkyards generally sell nice examples for about $200 (I paid $185 for mine in excellent condition) with the headrest speakers. Be sure to get a pair with the headrest speakers, which sound surpisingly good and are quite audible since the speakers are right next to your ears.

Here's a piece on my installation that may be of use: https://www.triumphowners.com/registry.cgi?sectionID=111014&vehicleID=332&i=1

I decided to mount mine directly to the pans. I removed the seat rails and bolted the seats directly to the floor pans with angle iron. This gives optimal leg room (I'm 6'2") and headroom.

It's a fairly easy conversion. All you need is a drill, some mounting hardware, and a few hours' time.

Good luck. Please feel free to contact me if you wish, I'll be glad to help.

Cheese,
My TR6 has the Suffolk seating from Vicky Brit. Extremely comfortable, fully reclining seat backs, looks like a Triumph (Miata seats look, added.) Downside: pricey, testy to install, questionable quality. Would I do it again? yeah. They are soooooo comfortable. My old lady now doesn't mind riding with me. Maybe that is not good.....

Hey thanks for the tips. A friend in the body shop biz is checking the hotline right now for Miata seats. Mine aren't really that bad but figured now is the time to check options.
