TR4/4A TR4A Radiator Duct Question

Are the TR4A radiator ducts suppose to have a nice pebble grain black finish on the inside and a flat gray plain cardboard finish on the outside? Is this how the originals were made? Thanks

My experience is with a TR4 but FWIW -- the exterior was a flat gray, I would call it almost a dark grey. I honestly don't recall what the inside was like.

I have seen some variations in what is supplied as repros but the one I got from Moss was very close to the shabby original it replaced. My only objection to their part was that they slapped a sticky bar-code label right on the top -- very tricky to remove and not damage the soft fiberboard.

Okay, I peeked inside the one I have on the TR4 -- hard to see of course, but the inside lookd just like the outside on the Moss version. A pebble-grain inside seems odd yet sounds familiar (like I have seen that part on someone elses TR). Perhaps a finish on the inside adds water resistance.

I am finally getting around to placing a new Moss radiator duct on my car. Its the fiberboard type with a grain vinyl underside. The problem is the from edge of the duct is straight across yet the valence it mates to has a slight "v" shape. So, the darn thing doesnt fit unless I do some srious trimming/bending to the fiberboard. Any suggestions?

Ignore the difference.

This does not help anyone above but for anyone looking at a duct I got the metal one from Moss and it fit perfectly and has a black crinkle finish. Very pleased. Obviously not for a purist but it looks good. Bruce

Okay, I will tip my friend when we start working TR4A this weekend. The rack, hard tops, and jeep accessories for his Wrangler arrived so we have to finish that first.

How mine fit (came from Moss, though it is a TR4):

For the curious... that business on the top are the headlamp relays.
