TR4/4A TR4A picture of wheel arch needed

I am in the process of installing seat belts in my TR4A. The car is layed up due to a tranny problem so I thought I would get to the seat belts while it was in the air. What I need to see is how much space the roof takes up while it is down (my car does not have the roof installed yet so have no idea). I would like to install a shoulder belt anchor on the wheel arch but I do not want to install it where it will interfer with the collapsed roof and/or cover for the roof.

If any of you have a picture of the wheel arch taken from the inside of the car while the roof is down with or without the cover on the colapsed roof, I would be most greatfull if you could send it to me or post a link to it.

I know the whole idea of "to seat belt or not to seat belt" and "to sholder belt or not to sholder belt" could spark a lot of talk as well.

Adrio, take a look at a TR^, as they are so similar that should give you a workable solution.
Remembering back 10 years to my TR6 I think the inertia reels were about the highest point on the rear wheel arch, but on the vertical surface not the horizontal.
Make SURE you put on a huge backing plate and use grade 8 bolts with hardened washers for safety.
Simon.

Simon,

Thanks. Yes a picture of same area of a TR6 would be just fine as well. If I don't get to see a picture then I will have to hold off on the seat belt install until I get the roof all installed (and that is a fair bit of work still).

As to the grade 8 bolts etc. I am using belts taken off a modern car and I saved all the hardware as well as the belts and mechanism.

Unlike what you describe I will have to place the shoulder anchor point on the horizontal surface (the sruface that is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the car) of the arch due to the design of the belt machanism I got.

Once I get this all done and installed I will post the result for others that may be interested. The belts came from a very common car that was unchanged over a large number of years so there are a lot of belts out there for the asking.

I don't have a pic. but I believe a 6 setup it what your looking for. The reel is mounted in the vertical surface of the wheel well just above the package tray (down low, right where a roll bar would come down). the belt then goes straight up to a pivoting guide in the top of the wheel well. From there it goes over your shoulder. That would be the easiest shoulder belt install to do. And it's well out of the way of the top.
Or you could do what I did and rob a set of quick release belts out of a C130, troop transport. They look just like racing belts....But green /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Adrio,

Here's a couple from my TR6. It was like this when I got it, so I can't comment on the details of the installation itself, but it seems to work, and passed the NY state inspection...

Apols for the image quality - It took me a while to get them small enough to attach, I shoot raw usually. If you need a better image, or a different angle, PM me and I'll try to help.
