That is the "body in white" number .
Mine was found inside the LH rear wheel well. Probably just to ID the painted body.

Same here...I was trying to get a Heritage Certificate based on the body in white number, engine number, and front cross member number since the vin/commission number plates were missing. They tried with the engine number, but couldn't find anything and didn't know what the body in white number referred to.
