Anyone know if the wood dash boards on the 4A(towards the end of the run 66-67) were teak or walnut and what stain colour was used or if a clear shellac or varnish was used back in the day? I think I read somewhere that a wood veneer was used over marine board? Anyone stripped their dash and refinished it? I'm thinking the modern urethanes are the way to go for the top coat. Karl

My Dash had a marine or aviation ply as a base with a very thin veneer of an indeterminable wood type. It was impossible to identify, as most of the grain had been (very professionally) painted in.
We refinished mine with teak veneer with a blended red-brown stain and many coats of lustre finish, UV rated, latex based urethane. This urethane is purported to be just as durable as the oil based urethane's that were more readily available in the past.
I am very satisfified with the look and glare factor (minimal) of the finish. I do like the heavy burled look of some other options but they seem a little over the top for a TR in mho
