TR4/4A TR4a dash finish

I have 2 TR4a dashes, the dark one is an original finished in clear Spar Urethane with no stain and the light unfinished one is re veneered in walnut. The round walnut veneer on top of the dash has 3 coats of spar urethane and no stain. I understand that dashes came in a wide variety of tones and I'm shooting for one between the light and dark. Thoughts?
Thanks, Rut

I would vote for somewhere in the middle also. darken the light one enough to see the wood is Walnut, but I don't vote for the very dark on the original. But it is your dash so do what you want. I used a pour on clear on my mini dash. Came out well but is not hard enough. So I put a coat of clear coat on top , leftover from painting the car. Better.

I agree with Jerry and like what he shows. I could see maybe a slight bit more red tone

This is a TR6 dash showing the original Colour on top and the new TRF repro below....maybe you are looking for something like that?

I like the touch of red...reminds me of the old Winchester gun stocks.

I like mine a lot, but I acknowledge it goes a bit beyond stock.

My new veneer is very similar to yours and your wood tone is beautiful!

Mine has a lot more figure in the timber grain. It came from a guy who specialises in Jaguars. And yes, I know that my switch plinth is not right for a TR4A. The timber dash was made to a pattern supplied to him and somehow it has the TR5/6 plinth cut out with the TR4A air vents. I actually prefer the 5/6 style plinth and as he was willing to sell it for $200 I did not argue!
