TR4/4A TR4A clutch slave cylinder

Well I was looking for something else to rebuild, but the clutch slave cylinder is really a mess so think I'll just replace it.

That did lead to a question however. When Moss referred to the 7/8" bore vs the 1" are they referring to the opening or the actual width of the bore inside the cylinder?

(Don't have calipers handy - sorry)

Affirmative...actual bore.

However, I went on the Moss site, and they refer to the 7/8" and 1" bores for the <span style="font-weight: bold">slave </span> cylinder, <span style="font-weight: bold">not</span> the master cylinder. I believe the master only came in 3/4" bore for the TR4(A). I think some of the TR6 M/Cs had a 0.70" bore.

Yeh, I'm a dope. I was referring to the slave cylinder. Sorry guys!

OK, I'll admit it. I'm on a "oh, another hydraulic component I can take apart kick"... But guess what, the clutch slave I thought was scrap turns out to be OK for a rebuild once I took it apart.

I had to hone the rear most (as mounted on the car) section of the cylinder but once I did that I was able to slam (I like that part) the cylinder on my now trusty block of wood and the piston and seals came out.

The inner cylinder where the piston actually sits is fine.

Original 4A slave was cast aluminum (which is a metal

). Looks like you have one from another car, perhaps a Stag. The stock 4A seal isn't going to fit, as it has a big hole through the center (like the MC seal).

LOL - should have expected that come back given my imprecision.

OK, so rebuildable or not sounds like it is time for a correct part.

Anyone, say Randall, have a Stag they are working on and could use this?

If that is a Stag slave, we could probably work out a swap. Let me check the parts bin this weekend and see if I've got a Girling slave that isn't too corroded.
