TR4/4A TR4 Values ??????

TR4

I have been using this website to track the value of my TR4 for insurance purposes https://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?L...00000&da=-1

The value has jumped up about $4000 compared to last years figures. Would this be right or do most of you believe the values will get corrected sometime soon? If the values are correct, this would be the only investment of mine that made money in 2008.

Thanks for posting this. I'll be interested in reading any replies too.

I just checked the NADA guide for my own year/model TR and found the "average" had gone up over $5000 from when I did this about 12 months ago.

Wonder where NADA folks "get the numbers". Is it time to up the value on my Hagerty insurance?

Thanks for the update. I just checked NADA and found the value of my 3B is up to $45K. Wow! I wonder where they get their numbers and what they base them on. It will be interesting to follow this one.

Be carefull that those values are built up from past craziness and market correction not yet accounted for in these guides. Simply watching ebay, it seems values are off.
That being said the best cars always get the bigger coin.

I don't know exactly what the value of a TR4 is these days, but it is nice to see them get some value recognition, when I bought my 4A over twenty years ago they were kind of the fogotten cousin of the TR family, the TR2s and 3s were classics, the TR6s were the last iteration of the classic British Sports Car, and the TR4 was kind of in between, neither here nor there.

They now seem to bring the same kind of money as their older and younger siblings, which is well deserved, as they all have their charms, but the TR4 and 4A are a very nice blend of classic looks and modern driveability.

ROADSTER 1965-68 2.2/104 4C fair 6,000 good 16,000 excellent 22,000 show 97,200 S loan 14,500
The 'show' blows me away...that in Mannheim

ROADSTER 1955-57 2.0/95 4C fair 13,000 good 20,000 excellent 27,000 show 33,000 S loan 18,000
That's for a 1956 TR3 so I suspect the show price on the TR4 is a misprint on their site.

Any car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.Put in emotional value and it all gets crazy.Add ebay into the mix,and everyone becomes an expert and insanity enters the game.Does any one remember the Baby Blue TR4 that sold a couple of years ago at Barrett-Jackson for $94.000.00? The car was nice, but not perfect. You know alcohol and bimbos had to be involved. As for insurance,if you have a company like Hagerty, talk to them. They know the car business and know values. If you have a company like Allstate, get rid of them. They know stupid commercials.

I go to BJ every year and John is correct...you see some folks caught up in the moment and they really want to 'buy something' but the other values seem about right.

What everybody needs to bear in mind is that the costs of restoration on tr3/4 is now well in excess of 30k and this is if you start with a driver!! It is only natural that good cars that need less work will go up in value. We have a tr2 in the shop that is just finishing a ground up restoration. Not counting the drive train there is over 300 hours work on the frame, body, and paint(x44$ per)just add parts, materials and the cost of the driveline to come up with a final figure. If this car was ever to cross the block at BJ or RM I would cry like a little girl if it did not fetch 40 to 50k.
Last spring a fresh tr4 did 44k$ and for an overdrive surry car I think that was not out of line. In contrast this fall I watched a tr4 cross the block at Branson for 15k$..it looked good but had a tr3 drive line, lacked a heater, and was leaking fuel.....and who really wants 48 spoke wires on a tr4????
