TR4/4A TR4 Upper and Lower Front Valance Panel

Does anyone know how to remove the whole front valance from a TR4? I know there are three bolts on each side, and the upper valance appears to be spot welded to the inner fenders at the top.

Is the valance welded to the inner fenders anywhere else?

What are the chances I can remove it without removing the outer fenders? I ask this question because the more parts I take off, the closer I get to a full blown restoration which I don't want right now.

Thanks as always for your help.

Dont be too afraid to do a "wing off " resto its the least a good tr4 deserves. Gives you a great chance to slap a lot of por15 on hidden gust worms....

Just to complete this post in case someone searchs for this info in the future ...

I pulled the front fenders off the TR4 today. The front valance (both upper and lower) is extensively spot welded to the inner fenders. It will require some quality time with a spot weld cutter or drill bit to remove it.

Thanks as always for everyone's input.

It is easy, ditto for a TR6. Now getting them back on properly....

I'm at the point where I need to either patch or remove and weld in new front valance. I was planning on just putting in a new one but looking at how it is attached has me thinking patch. Some of those counters are going to me a major pain to patch however...

I agree with tdskip ... pretty easy, depending on how apart your car already is.

- Remove the front bumper (4 bolts)

- Remove two (or three) fender to lower front valance bolts (one comes in from the outside).

- Remove three ACME threaded bolts to outer rocker (bottom of fender).

- Remove three bolts from inside car behind the kick panel.

- Remove one bolt on outside top of fender - can be accessed with the door open.

- Remove eight countersunk ACME threaded bolts from inside the engine compartment. Front one is tough to get a screwdriver on (I used a 90 degree one) ... my hood was off, don't know how tough this one would be with the hood on.

-Remove fender and stainless trim strip.

-Prepare yourself for what 40+ years of dirt and water can do to the lightly painted surface of the outer rocker behind the front fender.

Good luck.
