Howdy All, I have a 63 Tr4 that hasn't had a top on it since i got it. It has a top frame but i noticed on ebay a top frame for a 64 with "header clamps". My top frame ends about 12 to 15 inches from the windshield. Do i need this frame with Header clamps if i ever get a top or is what i have right?

Don't hold me to this because not only am I travelling, but I'm doing this from memory: I believe the frames are different for a latch assembly such as the TR4A uses--and maybe late TR4. The earlier TR4, of course, uses solely the "lip" to secure the front of the top to the chrome windshield frame cap molding. The TR4 frame also fits under the back foam padded trim piece. Not so with the TR4A. The TR4A setup, and maybe the late TR4, is superior due to the latches and ease of raising and lowering, but if you have a good frame and manage to find a good convertible top fitting snug enough with snaps and a good sharp steel lip embedded in the front trim stitching, I'd think you'll be fine. Take a look at the Moss catalogue and TR manual to be sure what you have. I'd also talk to Moss tech support to be sure you're on the right track. Just FYI I left a message with tech support about a month ago and never heard anything, so be sure to get a live voice and go from there.

The later style will not work with the early WS frame. It could be changed out as there are several advantages
to the latter style top(zip out backlite, ease of installation).

Agreed, I have a '64 with the snug under the windshield frame feature. I try not to drive in the rain. If I get caught in a rainstorm I have to gauge whether I can get to shelter before requiring the top to be put up. It is very meddlesome to erect the top. Several times I have been stopped under an underpass putting the top up only to have the rain stop before I get it up.
If you have the option, buy all the pieces to get the later style mechanism and top.
