I'm sorry to report that once again I had to try to improve something.
The splines on my steering rod appeared rusted and caked with dirt, and I was concerned I'd have corroded, rusted steering rods that eventually would be a problem.
So, using a little puller, I pulled the female splined parts off each rod end, and cleaned both ends with a stiff brush and some lubricating oil.
Now they look nice, but they seem too loose. They slide apart until stopped by the little thru-bolts.
There seems to be some slight play in the fittings as well, maybe a few 1000s.
Is the sliding normal, acceptable? Do I now need to try and pinch those splined fittings so they fit more tightly, or is there supposed to be some clearance and play in the splines.
Thx
