TR4/4A TR4 Soft top to surrey top

I was wondering what is involved in taking my 64 TR4 from the factory soft top setup to accommodating an original surrey top. I've read through the workshop manual but it's a bit vague.

From what I've read, the 3 trim pieces and studs on the back deck have to come off to allow the back light to bolt onto the body tube. Does the soft top scaffolding also have to come off?

I'm also wondering about the windscreen cap. I noticed there is a soft top version of the windscreen cap as well as a hard top version, but I can't tell what is different between the two. If I don't have to change the topcap out, I'd just as soon leave mine in place.

Here's a picture of my topcap.

Doug,

For the TR4, the windscreen cap should be the same and I only see 1 part number in the SPC. For the TR4A, you have to replace the windscreen capping with the TR4 one (806189).

Good to know, thanks. On the other side of the cap the button is missing. Is there anyway to repair that without taking the top cap off?

I've not seen the back of one, but if it isn't torn off and the hole is in decent shape I'd think you could carefully pop rivit a new button in place.

Randy,

Sounds right to me but then again both of mine are TR4A's which don't have that snap in soft-top form, but the rivet has to go into the windshield frame.
