I'm convinced someone is buying them up.

The only ones I've been able to find are on Craig's List offered at $450. I can't justify that, and neither would resale value.

I've checked EBAY for 6 straight months.

Am I wrong?

It took me a long time on ebay to come up with something but eventually I found one at a reasonable price. It helps to do some other keyword searches like Bendix or Motorola to get a 'period' style that works.

I'm pretty sure I have a dead one if you are just looking for a dash filler - let me know if so and I'll have a look.

Took me a while too but through creative searching on Ebay, I found one for my TR4 for $20 plus shipping. Works and looks like new. The photo on ebay was very bad so I asked the seller to send me another shot and it looked real nice. I know I got lucky but I did hunt for about a year. If memory serves me right, I found it by searching for a "British Radio" in Ebay Motors.

Nah, these were in cars I bought over the years. I would usually pull the existing radio out and put in a new radio. Or the car was so rusty or wreaked so bad that I parted out the car. One of my car club buddies who is a electronics whiz, saw the pile I had and asked if he could go thru them and see which ones are good. I think there were 7 or 8 good ones. He got one for his troubles. I used a couple of them in my cars. One had lots of chrome trim, it looks very good in the A/H3000.

Not quite entirely correct, but very nice are the German made Becker radios from the '60s. These were standard equipment on Mercs and BMWs and seem to be readily available. I put a Becker Europa in my Lotus Europa (it seemed apt) and it works/fits nicely. The Becker Mexico is a nice option too and is available with a cassette deck. You may have to change the cut-out, and some may object to a German made radio in their British car but thought it worth a mention.

KVH - In case you don't know, we have a local TR4 (and 3 and 6 and another 4) owner who has among his many skills and interests the restoration of old radios. Good to know if you get a non-runner.

Some things really do take a rocket scientist.
