TR4/4A TR4 Radiator Guard Attachment

What are the proper bolts/washers to attach the radiator guard to the frame on a TR4? My TR4 has never had this guard, and I've recently acquired one, but I'm a little stumped as to how to attach it. Is there supposed to be some sort of threaded blind nut in the frame end? Mine just appears to be a hole in the end piece with no access to the back side.

Thanks,

Kurt

It should bolt to the front of the frame:

I'm not sure what's on the back side; there has to be either captured nuts or an accessible area behind the screws. I suppose it's possible that there once were captive nuts that broke off, and that's why you don't have the shield.

Thanks for the replay Steve. Do you no what the proper bolt size is? I can't find any information on them.

The TR3 radiator guard fits between the frame rails. There are 2 bolt holes each side for a long bolt with a nut. 3/8"I believe.
At least that was how my TR3 is set up.

Thanks David. The TR3 setup is a little different. The TR4 guard has tabs with holes that line up with holes in the end piece of the frame. Here's a link to the Moss catalog page. It actually calls out the bolts for the TR3 piece, but not the TR4.

Almost all the body and frame bolts in the TRs are 5/16 or 3/8 UNF, 5/16 being most common. It's possible that there is a captured nut, but it's a larger size than you are expecting. Try a couple different sizes.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for.
