TR5/TR250 TR4/RA/250 Rear Bumper Installation

I received my rear bumper and over-riders from the chromer and was pretty proud of myself putting the rear bumper bar on. Now, the over-riders just clear the boot lid and the over-rider stays do not fit.

What is the secret to the black art of getting the rear bumper on? Has anyone found something particularly helpful in terms of the sequence?

Also, I had an additional question. My car had galvanized plumbing pipe for the spacer between the "front" of the bumper and the rear fender. One was 11/16" and the other 1" wide. I ordered a 1" wide stainless spacer from MMC. Would anyone have the specs for an original spacer?

Thanks in advance,

My boot lid clears the over-riders by 3/8" but I have seen several TR4s nicked back there by too-close a fit.

Are they too long or too short. There is, of course, quite a bit of adjustment with those elongated holes.

Mine are original and they are 1".

As far as sequence, I just bolted it up loosely -- I think I had the ends resting on a couple of milk crate while I did the rear -- everything went together pretty well. Fishing the wires thru to the license plate lights was a PITA, last time I did this I think I cut the harness under the inside of the wing and used bullet connector there so the bumper can now be removed w/o undoing those lights (though for re-chroming you have no choice but to remove.

Let me know if any pics would be helpful.

I just put the bumpers on the 4A here. I had cupped washers between the mounts and the bar. Seemed original. I started all the bolts before tightening any. This includes the braces etc. I had to pull the bumper bar down to get everything to line up OK. I tightened the over rider main bolts first, then the ends then the braces, and last the chrome bolts. Just loosen everything up, and pull down the center of the bar. This will roll the tops of the over riders out, and all should be good.
